The Chaotic Reader

I read and review books. I proofread manuscripts. I write stories. I'm addicted to baseball. I prefer the company of a good book to that of most people, but I can talk to almost anyone about almost anything if so moved. I can feign interest if not so moved…for a while, anyway. I frequently think in song lyrics.
Like most people my age, I began learning to read in first grade. I say began because every book I read teaches me to read more fully. I became a Reader the summer I turned eleven, when I almost severed the middle toe of my left foot. I know; it takes talent to get just that one without lopping off a few of the others in the process. Anyway, I was laid up all summer, unable to do anything but read, so I read the entire set of Mother West Wind Stories my grandmother owned. I've been hooked on books and reading ever since. I've gone through a few phases as to favorite genres. Somewhere in my forties, I decided I needed to read some of the classics I should have read in school, but never got around to. Now I’m constantly on the lookout for great novels.
The more I read, the more of a "book snob" I seem to become. I have very definite likes, dislikes, and pet peeves about the books I read, and I'm never hesitant to discuss them. I enjoy discovering new authors. Whether they’re new to being published or just new to my reading experience, I like to share them with others through my reviews and by promoting them on the social networking sites where I’m active.
